During this time, many Jews in Eastern Europe and Russia were drawn to leftist ideologies as a response to the oppressive conditions they faced under autocratic regimes. The Labor Party, which is associated with the Jewish Left, was the dominant political party in Israel for the first three decades of the country's existence.
